Get Away To The Good Life

Approximately 60 miles north of Dallas & just 10 miles south of Lake Texoma, Whitesboro is both a getaway destination and a great place to call home.
Located in one of the most breathtakingly beautiful areas of North Texas, it is known as “horse country”.

Long stretches of grassy pastures, sparkling white pole fencing and prancing thoroughbred horses line most major roads.

Friday night football is alive and well, as is the tradition in many small Texas communities.

Downtown boast a well-known fresh meat market, antique shops and hometown cafes.

Home, community, fellowship and faith are the mainstays of this small but growing area.

Whitesboro library displays Comanche Indian photo exhibit

WHITESBORO -- A unique photo exhibit centered around the Comanche Indian history is on display now through Dec. 10 at the Whitesboro Public Library.

The Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker Trail Exhibit is a new heritage tourism effort of the Texas Lakes Trail Regional Heritage Tourism Program. The subtitle of the exhibit is "A Woman of Two Worlds and a Man in Two Worlds."

The courageous Parkers are important names in United States frontier history. In 1836, a Comanche raiding party took Cynthia Ann from her family and, over the following years, she became wife to a Comanche chief and mother to several children including Quanah. After Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers, Quanah became one of the most important Comanche leaders, both in war and peace.

Whitesboro to mark historic site

The celebration revolves around a project earmarked by WEDCO in early 2010 to place a Designation Marker at the historic site of "Diamond Station." This was a stop for the Butterfield-Overland Mail Route Stagecoach. The site is located one mile west of downtown on Main Street-State Highway 56 West, where John Diamond is buried. It is now known as Pioneer Park. Read more…

BY JONATHAN CANNON

HERALD DEMOCRAT

WHITESBORO -- With a father's passion, a Whitesboro doctor has spent the past 12 years working on a haven for his son and those who have experienced the same injury, a traumatic brain injury. Dr. John Galewaler said he hopes The Brain Injury Centers, which he plans to build in the small town, will be a place of unique care for those with traumatic brain injuries. And even with his son Sean's death this year, Galewaler is continuing to pour time and resources into this project.
