Local Texoma Cafes

Some of these local favorites are buffets where you need to go early - when the chicken and dumplings are gone, they are gone.  These are not cafeterias where food is continually on the burner, these are mom and pop creations where many of the diners know the "mom" personally.  The ingredients are fresh, the recipes handed down from generation to generation and the food is prepared fresh each day. Local residents stop by the booths or stop at tables to say howdy or talk about local events, as neighbors greet neighbors in these local cafes during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Oh, and if you love pie, you have definitely landed in the right place!  The cream pies are piled high with meringue and the apple pies stuffed full of flavorful fruit and served warm with melting ice cream.  Again, my advice is come early, these pies are made fresh each morning and when they last crumb is gone, it is gone.

Tea Houses offer up homemade chicken salad sandwiches, smoked turkey sandwich and soup combos, spinach and strawberry salad and “daily specials".  Chicken Fried steak is the specialty at many of the family style restaurants - served with white gravy, veggies, French fries and other side choices.  Yep, I am talking hand dipped, deep fried pieces of goodness that are cooked to order but served up fast.  Roast beef, meatloaf, chicken 'n dumplings, Salisbury steak and don't forget all the sides - mashed potatoes (real potatoes), green beans (cook with ham hock), corn, fried okra, carrots, and for the health conscious salads of every ethnic variety thought up by man, or in this case, mom.
