It has been said that necessity is the mother of invention. That is exactly
what inspired Grayson College to introduce a new program in the fall of 2011.

The casinos in Southern Oklahoma, the explosion of restaurants in the Sherman
Town Center, growth in the assisted living facilities in the area and the on-
going resort and tourism trade around Lake Texoma created a need for about 3,500 skilled employees in the Hospitality and Culinary Arts.

Cellarman's reviewed by Texas Monthly

BY KATHY WILLIAMS

HERALD DEMOCRAT

SHERMAN -- When Texas Monthly Magazine, which calls itself the national magazine of Texas, talks food -- good Texas food -- Texans tend to pay attention. This week Texas Monthly chose to include Cellarman's American Pub to review.

This is what Texas Monthly said about the local eatery, "Just off U.S. 75 in Sherman you'll find better-than-average pub grub, from burgers and sandwiches to pastas and pizzas. We bellied up to the bar and ordered frosty beers and a wood-fired pizza called the Whole 9 Yards, fittingly topped with all types of meats and fresh veggies. We also sampled a batch of golden-brown Guinness-battered mushrooms. We ended the night with an old-fashioned float with house-made root beer. Bar."

Randy Derzapf, Cellarman's owner, said his restaurant, "was chosen by Texas Monthly Magazine as their selection for the North Central Texas Area. Their restaurant review staff came in, unknown to us, and ordered several items off of the menu resulting in an addition to their 'Filter Dining Guide.' Their favorite restaurants, bistros, cafes and joints in Texas. Only 28 restaurants were selected in the Dallas area and only one in the Sherman, Denison, Mckinney and Allen area and that was Cellarman's American Pub."

Derzapf said Cellarman's opened in 1998 with 100 seats and has grown to 200 seats. "We are a local, family-owned small business with 25 employees."

The restaurant's specialty pizzas are cooked in its wood-fired brick oven.

"We also have fresh oysters on the half-shell, sandwiches with fresh baked bread, homemade soups and chili, house brewed draught rootbeer and 50 other items on the menu. It is great to be recognized for serving quality food."

Texas Monthly's website states, "reviews are written by resident critics in the cities that we list and are updated every three months. the reviewers' identities are kept anonymous to ensure that they receive no special treatment."

Texas Monthly reviews restaurants in Texas 12 metro cities and a changing number of small cities and towns.
