Grayson County Home Sales Rise 22%

Sherman TX – The Greater Texoma Association of REALTORS® reports that the sale of single family homes in Grayson County rose sharply in June 2011 over the same period in 2010. According to sales statistics compiled by the North Texas Real Estate Information System, Inc. (MLS), existing home sales were up 22% over the same month last year. In June 2011, Texoma REALTORS® reported the sale of 124 homes versus 102 homes in June 2010. Ms. Stacey Olmstead, President of the Greater Texoma Association of REALTORS® said, “June 2011 had the highest number of homes sold in any month in over 3 years.”

In addition to reporting strong home sales, the Association noted the supply of homes for sale listed on the MLS system decreased from 13 months to 11 months (down 19%), the average days on the market for existing homes for sale decreased from 113 days to 109 days (down 4%) and the number of homes listed for sale dropped from 1273 houses to 1157 houses (down 9%) compared to June 2010. Homes under contract for sale but not yet transferred to the new owners, also rose from 84 homes in June 2010 to 91 homes in 2011 (Up 8%). “All the reports are indicating that housing demand is stabilizing within Grayson County and buyers are starting to recognize, once again, the value of owning their home. With today’s great low home loan interest rates, good homes, priced right are attracting fair offers. Both buyers and sellers are recognizing the opportunities for wonderful home investments in the Texoma area,” said Ms. Olmstead.
